"We invented a technology to cool down the internal electronics that allow lower operating voltages so that we can create smaller, more energy-efficient devices," said research co-author and professor at the University of Texas at Dallas, Kyeongjae Cho. The researchers found that when a particular atom's thin film layer is added to the transistor, this layer acts as a filter for energy, passing at room temperature. This is because the signal of this device is 6 to 7 times steeper than the conventional device. Steep devices use less voltage but still have a strong signal. "The entire semiconductor industry is looking for steep equipment because they are key, small, powerful, mobile, and fast-running, without spending a lot of battery," said Professor Jin Chiying, a professor at the University of Texas at Dallas. "Our device is a solution to achieve this goal," Mr. Jin added.
